All in Her Head

She waited for that right time but it never came.
Poured her heart out, hoping the words would sustain
What she'd felt all along, alas all in her head —
That stupid girl built a castle, and then set it aflame!
"It's okay..." said a voice inside her head.
"...as long as you keep it to yourself."

"But how?" she asked, wondering how mad she was,
Talking to herself – 'Gosh, this is insane,' she thought!

"Shh.. Just don't speak out,
keep it inside,
Say what you must,
but under your breath,
And then 'lie' out loud,
And that way, nothing's left unsaid!"

She'd already done part damage,
But it wasn't something she still couldn't salvage.
She'd just said how she really felt,
Nothing too much, it was just her heart, now hanging from the ledge...

Feeling loved, but not much,
Somewhat rejected, because it wasn't enough,
She'd only followed her heart, into the light,
Made it vulnerable, let it take flight...
"Come back, it's time," she told her heart, "You've gone too far astray,"
"I need you back in darkness,
where you'll be forever safe."

He was clearly refraining himself,
keeping just out of reach,
While she'd let him in, so fearlessly.
He had his reasons—didn't want to get hurt,
But she thought differently, unable to understand what felt worse...

There was so much she wanted to say in return,
Let him know how she ached,
Because falling in love was never her intention,
But he'd made it too difficult for her to stay away.

And so she silently wept,
Listened to her mind, and whispered to herself,
"Getting hurt is inevitable...Whatever may the reason be.
But if you don't let me in, we'll never know, will we?
